REVIEW: ‘Into the Wild’—A Journey That Grabs Your Soul

A breathtaking true story of freedom, nature, and self-discovery that stays with you forever.

Watching Into the Wild (2007) felt like stepping into a breathtaking dream painted with raw emotions and stunning landscapes. At first, I was a bit doubtful regarding the almost two-and-a-half-hour-long trip, as I tend to lose interest if the story or visuals fail to capture me.

But this film? Pure genius! From the hot, sunny deserts of Arizona to the frozen, untamed beauty of the Alaskan wilderness in summer and winter, every frame is a cinematographic wonder that gets you immersed within it, breathing fresh air and hearing the whispers of the wild.

What hit me was the dialogue and voiceovers that resonate down into one’s heart, really. Perhaps, truthfully, this movie is based on the true story of Christopher McCandless—who was a young man that gave up everything to wander in the wild to learn of himself—which makes it that much more heavy in reality.

This gem of a movie directed by Sean Penn felt like a narrative created with such smoothness that the motivations of every moment exist in power and reality; the musical tracks by Eddie Vedder embrace the scenes as with warmth and totally embody the spirit of freedom and solitude.

It is an experience above and beyond that raises questions in the mind and soothes the heart. A kind of rare film that stays in memory with the viewers even after the end.
